Welcome to the Web Site of Teulada Moraira Lions Club

My name is Robert Young and I live in Pedreguer, but I have an association with Teulada Moraira going back to 2003. I am proud and privileged to be the current President of our club.

Our club was founded 16 years ago and from small beginnings has grown to 30 members – men and women who are all willing to give their time and energy to help other people and organisations, mainly in the Teulada, Moraira and Benitachell areas but not exclusively so. We also have associate members who spend part of their year in Spain and when they are here give their time to support our efforts.

The club meets every 3rd Tuesday of the month at Los Leones Restaurant in Moraira to discuss and make decisions on every aspect of our activities; where is the greatest need, raising money, deciding how that money will be spent, and our own social events.

In recent years we have managed to raise over € 15,000 annually from our fund raising activities. These are varied and range from a regular book stall in Moraira market on the 1st and 3rd Friday of each month, Sponsored Walk, Fashion Show, Christmas Draw and of course the ever popular summer concerts held on Moraira seafront next to the castle. Unlike many other charities all of the money raised from our fund raising events goes to pay for Lions Projects. None of the money we raise is spent on administrative costs.

So where do we spend all this money that comes to us? Some of the money raised goes to Lions programmes overseas – special collections in Moraira market in January meant we were able to send €2500 to help rebuild infrastructure in Haiti- but the vast majority raised goes back to the local community, providing medical equipment such as defibrillators to local health centre, wheelchairs and a hoist to MABS a local cancer support group. We support EMAUS children’s homes and women and children at risk from domestic violence. We work closely with the local social services and CARITAS and provide food, clothing and whatever else is required to the neediest families that they identify.

Although all this may seem rather serious we do have a lot of fun as well taking part in our activities. We organise a Halloween children’s party and also for the first time we will have a summer children’s party in July. We have a full programme of social events throughout the year.

Please explore our website to find out more about our club. Although we are an English speaking club we welcome potential members of all nationalities. If you would like to find out more about becoming a Lion please contact us either through the website or at one of our fundraising events. We will make sure you are very welcome.
