MAPA is a social club
previously called ISCOM (International Social Club of Moriara) but on
relocating to Benitachell the name was changed to MAPA (Marina Alta
Pensionistas Association). We spoke to
the Club Secretary regarding their activities:
We have 134 members most of whom live in Spain but some come along only when
they visit for 3 or 6 months of the year.
We are mainly retired but also have younger members. We have been located at our new club premises
for 16 months and have sole occupancy.
It is a modern building with air con/central heating. We have a bar with reasonable prices. On Friday mornings light lunches or
sandwiches from €1.50 upwards can be bought, we also have a mini quiz, a raffle
and a version of Play Your Cards Right.
On a Tuesday evening we play whist and on a Thursday evening we play
crib. We can teach both of these games
or offer refresher courses. We hold a
quiz on the 1st Saturday of each month with major prizes. During the course of the year we hold other
events such as walking and driving treasure hunts, BBQ/boules evenings at Font
Santa, Pub Nights with pool, darts, dominoes, carpet bowls and a fish and chip
supper if required. We also hold
occasional race evenings. We have
recently hosted two quiz nights for the Red Cross, the club premises have been
given free of charge and the club benefits from the receipts from the bar. We would consider similar offers from local
groups or charities. A buffet style meal
(at agreed price) could also be provided.
Finally, we would like to extend a welcome to come along and see for
yourself – membership is FREE for the month of August. Annual membership is from 1st
September. If you would like further
information telephone 96 579 3612 or 96 649 0840. Hope to see you there.
